Refocused Magazine had a wonderful time meeting Tulani last month at the Tobin Center, and we can’t get enough of her! “Miss You” is her new single recently released on iTunes. Tulani wowed San Antonio during her breathtaking performance at the Tobin Center on January 28, 2016 event presented by ICONTALKS with special guest Chaka Khan.

After the event was over our reporter Breanne caught up with Tulani with an exclusive interview and her energy was felt in the hallway!

Bio

Glenda Ulanday Toms was born on January 31,1987 in Prince Georges County, MD to the late Queen Esther Franklin and Funk singer, Gary Toms of the Gary Toms Empire. At the age of 2, Ulanday began singing in her church choir at First Baptist Church of Guilford, where she continued to sing until her college days. Ulanday’s first performance was at her 5th grade graduation where she sanged R. Kelly’s “I Believe I Can Fly.”
Being inspired by singer, songwriter, and actress Brandy; Ulanday entered and won singing competitions while attending school. For two years in a row, Toms won the “Showtime at the Apollo” talent competition at Hammond High School in Columbia, MD. She continued to sing while attending South Carolina State University, 2005 she met South Carolina’s DJ Cleve. The two began working in the studio to prepare for South Carolina State University’s Talent Showcase and Miss Alpha Phi Alpha in 2006.
After her performances around campus, Ulanday established a name for herself, which provided her the opportunity to sing back up for Motown Records’ recording artist Lenny Williams and Gospel group Mary Mary at her university’s homecoming event. A year later, Ulanday received a singing scholarship, and transferred to Morgan State University in Baltimore, MD.
In 2012, Ulanday released her first single “Hey DJ” with Southeast Styles record label in Washington, DC. To pursue her singing and songwriting career, Toms moved to Atlanta, GA in 2013 where she began working with Powerhouse Muzik Group. Ulanday aspires to write for artist like August Alsina, Jhene Aiko, Rihanna, and many more, while continuing to pursue her career as an artist.

In 2006, his company, All Sports administered the strength and conditioning program for the East vs West Shriners’s college senior bowl. In 2008-09, All Sports administered the strength and conditioning program for the Division II college Senior Cactus Bowl All Star game in Kingsville. Today All Sports Speed and Conditioning continues to train athletes to elevate their athletic performance to the next level in all sports.

AN EVENING OF EMPOWERMENT, ENTERTAINMENT AND INSPIRATION WITH GRAMMY AWARD WINNING ARTIST, ACTOR AND ACTIVIST TIP “TI” HARRIS

Philanthropic media and entertainment sensation Icon Talks is returning to the Alamo City bringing an upscale evening of empowerment, inspiration and entertainment.

Icon Talks concert and conversation charity benefit will take place on December 7, 2017 from 7PM-9PM with “Grammy Award Winning Recording Artist, Actor, Producer & Philanthropist Tip “TI” Harris at the Tobin Center for the Arts, 100 Auditorium Cir, San Antonio, TX 78205.

Icon Talks brings to the main stage a sophisticated evening of insightful conversation and performance from some of the entertainment industries most successful artists.

Artist “TI” will give the audience a candid conversation describing his path, passion and purpose in life and its relevance to his success. The onstage conversation will be followed by a 45-minute set of TI’s greatest hits.

“This is going to be more than an entertaining show, it is going to be an evening of empowerment and inspiration headlined by one of the biggest artist of this generation,” says John Burns, co-founder of Icon Talks.

Icon Talks will additionally be honoring special guests with Visionary Awards for their commitment and contribution to their community. Awardees includes Tip “TI” Harris, as well as local visionaries San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg and Ms. Cassandra Carr- Minority Owner of Spurs Sports and Entertainment.

Tickets for the sophisticated evening with Icon Talks featuring “TI” will be on sale at the Tobin Center’s box office starting October 16th, 2017 at www.tobincenter.org . (Cosmopolitan, business or cocktail attire is highly suggested for this event.)

The charity event will benefit 501(c)3 nonprofit Icon to Ican. The Icon to Ican Charitable Organization’s mission is to provide mentorship and empowerment programs for underprivileged youth in underserved communities and children facing life-threatening medical conditions to help them cope with social, physical, and economic barriers they face in their life. Icon to Ican offers a multitude of different programming ranging from mentorship, health & wellness and self-esteem, amongst others.
