IDEA Public Schools Welcomes Nearly 36,000 Students throughout Texas on the First Day of School

Published

on

San Antonio, TEXAS (August 14, 2017) – Today, IDEA Public Schools kicked off its 17th school year across Texas in the Rio Grande Valley, Austin, and San Antonio. Over 4,000 employees welcomed back 36,000 students for the first day of the 2017-2018 school year.

This year, IDEA Public Schools opened five new campuses: IDEA Rio Grande City and IDEA Tres Lagos in Rio Grande City and McAllen, and IDEA Brackenridge, IDEA Ewing Halsell, and IDEA Harvey E. Najim in San Antonio. Collectively, these schools will serve nearly 8,300 students when they serve students in grades Pre-K to 12 by 2024.

Over the last 17 years, IDEA has grown from a small school with 150 students to the fastest-growing network of tuition-free, Pre-K-12 public charter schools in the United States. From Pre-K – 12th grade, IDEA Public Schools is focused on sending 100% of students to college. For the last 11 years, 100% of IDEA graduates have been accepted to college.

Today, 2,600 IDEA students are starting their first day in Pre-K. IDEA’s Pre-K program teaches the foundational skills every student needs. As IDEA Academy students persist each year, they are exposed to a combination of intimate, individualized instruction, and web-based, support from the nation’s leading educational technologies and software. Last year, IDEA had nearly 3,000 academy students qualify as Royal Readers for reading more than 1 million words.

Through IDEA’s AP For All initiative, every IDEA college preparatory student is required to take at least 11 AP courses as part of their core coursework. This strategy provides equity of access to rigorous and challenging coursework for all students. Not only does the coursework help prepare students for college, it allows them the opportunity to earn college credit before ever stepping foot onto a college campus.

“We take pride in the fact that as we continue to grow to serve more students in San Antonio, our results continue to get better year after year,” said Rolando Posada, executive director of IDEA San Antonio. “Everyone, from our school leaders and teachers to campus operations staff, are committed to sending 100% of our students to and through college, and we are looking forward to another great year ahead.”

IDEA is home to six of the best high schools in Texas and the nation, according to US News and World Report and the Washington Post and the demand for IDEA schools in new communities continues to grow.

Book: To Mend a Broken Heart

Description: “I just want to write the words as I feel them bleeding from this old heart of mine…”

Bad memories are never really forgotten. Just suppressed under the mountain of lies we’ve told ourselves, so that the painful ones are easier to bear. I remember a lot, and my life has been emotionless for a long time. I recall watching as my mother was beaten bloody in front of me, and then, as if I were old news, I was cast away. Until now, I’ve been patching the holes in my heart with band-aids; but I’m ready to feel again. So that true healing can finally begin.

Women are wonderfully made with a heart that can easily accommodate and deal with several life challenges. While some can outlive or outgrow these negative experiences to become better adults, others are not so lucky and usually live their lives in the shadow of their past experiences and memories. Dedicated to the girls who turned into broken women, To Mend a Broken Heart is a guide to growth, healing and learning to love again. Now a TOP 100 Bestseller in Love & Relationships, Self-Help!

Today’s guest on I Am Refocused Podcast is Victoria Khaze of Money Munchkids®

Bio

Victoria has almost a decade in business and over five years in marketing. She specializes in small business strategy and marketing. Victoria is a four-time published poet and has been featured in several local and national publications. Victoria believes in hard work and leading by example. She has been an entrepreneur since she was in elementary school when she started her first business making and selling jewelry. Despite her business bug Victoria has a laid back and casual demeanor. She’s creative, silly and almost always the first person to make a joke. Oh, and she’s a total nerd.

“Be the change you wish to see in the world” – Mahatma Gandhi
“The only person you’re truly competing against is yourself.” – Captin Picard S1 Ep19

Money Munchkids® Mission
Money Munchkids® is a company dedicated to teaching kids between K-3rd Grade financial literacy and money management. The goal of Money Munchkids® is to teach children about basic financial terms and principles in order to provide a sound foundation for their lives as adults and the financial responsibilities that await them.

About Money Munchkids®
Money Munchkids® was started in 2013 by Victoria Khaze. After over a year of research and beta testing, she launched the Money Munchkids, starting with the Financial Education Kids Course which has been in several LAUSD schools and recreation centers. Since then we have created educational activity books, educational home kits and a financial education curriculum for school classrooms. Money Munchkids has been featured by CNBC, California Jumpstart for financial education, LA Parent magazine, ADDitude magazine, several parenting websites and radio shows.

About The Creator
Victoria Khaze is the creator of Money Munchkids®. Money Munchkids® is important to Victoria because of her little brother and so many of the kids she’s known in her life. Victoria often saw kids mimic adults by “using their credit card” or saying they’ll just “go to the bank and get the money” for something. It showed her that a lot of kids aren’t taught about money. It was these personal experiences that brought Money Munchkids® to life.

“I believe the best gift we can give children is knowledge and a good foundation for all of the financial decisions and responsibilities they will face in the future.”
